Professor of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery, Flinders University

Professor Carney is one of Australia’s leading Academic ENT Surgeons. He is Professor of ENT Surgery at Flinders University and was awarded his Doctorate for pioneering research into molecular changes in the nasal mucosa that precede the development of “hay-fever”. Between 2007 and 2011 he chaired the Flinders Clinical Research Ethics Committee and from 2005 to 2013 he was Head of the ENT Unit at FMC.

He has a special interest in diseases of the nose and sinuses, sleep surgery and Paediatric ENT and regularly teaches on these topics at surgical courses throughout Australia, Asia and in the UK. He is the current President of the Australia and New Zealand Rhinologic Society and is on the Board of the International Symposium of Infection and Allergy of the Nose, also chairing their Education and Training sub-committee. He has performed over 20,000 surgical procedures and has pioneered several new operative techniques and instrument designs for ENT equipment manufacturers. He is a Consultant for several pharmaceutical and medical technology companies.
