Lecturer in Mathematics, Deakin University

Professional Experience

I have worked as a Lecturer in mathematics at Deakin since 2010. I am mainly involved in first year mathematics subjects, in particular a unit which is core to the Primary Education degree offered by Deakin. My research to date has focused on functions which are used to summarize datasets, with applications in computational intelligence and decision making. I currently serve as an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems.

Education

B. Arts / B. Teaching (Deakin University, 2006)
B. Science (Hons) in Mathematics (Deakin University, 2007)
PhD in Mathematics (Deakin University, 2011)
Grad. Cert of Higher Education (Deakin University, 2013)
currently completing Diploma of Modern Languages (Deakin)

Research Areas

- The theory and properties of aggregation functions (functions intended to provide a representative value from a large dataset) toward applications in multi-criteria decision making, group decision making, image processing and classification.

- The use of indices in ecology (this research is done in collaboration with my colleague, Dale Nimmo).

- Mathematics education.
