Sinclair Dinnen has a background in criminology and socio-legal studies and completed his PhD at ANU in 1996. His doctoral research was undertaken in Papua New Guinea while a research fellow at the PNG National Research Institute. He previously taught law at the University of Papua New Guinea.
Sinclair has longstanding research interests in comparative criminology, law and development, policing, conflict and peacebuilding, and post-colonial state formation in the SW Pacific. He has published extensively in academic and other outlets. His most recent (co-authored) book is Policing the Pacific Islands (Palgrave MacMillan, 2023). Current projects include Community Law-Making in the Pacific Islands (with Miranda Forsyth)
