PhD Researcher in Anthropology, Australian National University

Sophie Pezzutto (they/she) is a PhD researcher and peer support worker based on Ngunnawal country (Canberra). Their PhD in anthropology at the Australian National University is the first ethnographic study of the trans pornography industry in the world. As part of their research, Sophie lived in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, interviewing porn performers about self-branding and life in the industry. Sophie has written for TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly, The Conversation and AG: About Gender. Her research has been featured in Forbes, Buzzfeed, and Mother Jones. Beyond her research, Sophie works for A Gender Agenda, a not-for-profit that advocates for the rights of trans, intersex, and gender diverse people in her hometown, as well as the Sex Worker Outreach Project where they provide local peer support for sex workers.

Sophie's research interests are transgender pornography, transgender sex work, self-branding, social media, and the gig economy.
