Dr Stephen Jackson has held various roles including field ecologist, zookeeper, curator, government regulator, author, part time lecturer and wildlife consultant.

Stephen's research has typically focused on the ecology, conservation and taxonomy of mammals. To date, he has published 6 books and over 70 refereed papers and book chapters as a result of his research.

Two of his books have been awarded the Whitley Medal for the best natural history book from the Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales.

Stephen has had numerous research collaborations within Australia and overseas. This has included conducting research at various museums internationally including: American Museum of Natural History (New York, USA), Kunming Institute of Zoology (Kunming, China), Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle (Paris, France), Natural History Museum (London, UK), Naturalis Museum (Leiden, Netherlands), United States National Museum of Natural History (Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC, USA), and the Zoological Collection of the Zoological Survey of India (Kolkata, India).
