Steven D. Miller

Professor of Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University

I am the Director of the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere. My expertise is in remote sensing of the Earth and its atmosphere via satellite-based instruments. I have developed numerous environmental characterization applications, both in terms of quantitative retrievals of parameters and qualitative imagery enhancements used by weather forecasters. As director of CIRA, I help connect basic/foundational research to the applied needs of operational users and decision makers. My sponsored research background spans the Department of Defense, NOAA, and NASA. Currently I specialize in low-light visible remote sensing, using a new generation of space-based sensors and pushing the envelope of nighttime science.
