Senior research fellow, Victoria University

Steven is an Electrical Engineer (PhD) with advanced programming, machine learning and optimisation skills. His research commonly implements cloud computing to handle big datasets to answer complex energy research questions. From 2009 to 2014, Steven worked as a Research Engineer at CSIRO Energy Technology, Australia. In 2018, Steven completed a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Melbourne and with the CSIRO and Low Carbon Living CRC. Since 2014, Steven has held research positions at IBM-Research, Melbourne, Australia and the University of California, Berkeley, California, USA.

At VU he has developed the NEM-SEED model, an optimisation model of the National Energy Market, allowing electricity market forecasts and scenario analysis over the coming decade. He has research interests are in energy transition, renewable energy, market power, the economics of battery storage, energy policy, market dynamics, distributed generation and demand-side energy.
