Earned his PhD from Antwerp University in Belgium in 2003, having done research on concurrency control for XML databases.
Soon thereafter moved to Australia to take up a lecturing position at USQ in Toowoomba.
Stijn has specialised in teaching courses on data management, web technology, and mobile systems. Became Head of Department of Mathematics and Computing in 2009.
