PhD Candidate, Social Policy and Social Work Department, University of York

After a varied career, including ten years as a campaign staffer for the Labour Party, and time as a criminal justice researcher, I am now in the second year of my PhD in the Social Policy and Social Work Department at University of York. An avid user of social media and lover of all things tech, I have combined my passions in my doctoral research.

My PhD is considering the role of online abuse in gender-based violence, investigating the impact of abusive communication executed via new technology and how social media changes power relationships and interactions online, particularly in regard to participation in public life. The study adopts a clear feminist perspective, and attempts to explore and understand underlying causes and manifestations of misogyny.

I have a BSc (Hons) in Social Policy and Administration and an MSc in Criminal Justice Policy, both from the London School of Economics, and an MA in Social Research from University of York.
