Lecturer in Criminal Justice and Social Policy, School for Business and Society, University of York

I have extensive interdisciplinary experience in Criminal Justice, Social Policy and Politics. Before embarking on an academic career as a mature student, I worked in political campaigning, research and policy development. Susan has previously worked as a staffer for the Labour Party; a Parliamentary Researcher on the House of Commons Home Affairs Select Committee; and have served as a researcher for numerous elected representatives, including Members of Parliament and Members of the European Parliament. She has also worked in an informal capacity for the Democratic Party in the USA.

I have significant experience in the criminal justice and social policy sectors, and has provided leadership, strategic direction, and policy development advice to a number of public and third sector bodies.

I now combine my past professional knowledge with more recent research and teaching experience, with an emphasis on the interplay between gender, criminal justice, and social policy.

I have a BSc (Hons) in Social Policy and Administration and an MSc in Criminal Justice Policy, both from the London School of Economics, and an MA in Social Research from the University of York. My PhD, considering the relationship between online abuse and gender-based violence, was awarded by the University of York in July 2022.
