Doctoral Student in Mass Communications, Penn State

Sydney Forde is a doctoral candidate in Mass Communications at Penn State University. She studies the political economy of media industries with a focus on how news is funded, and how that funding influences journalism's ability to be democratically responsible. She completed her joint M.A. in Canadian-American Studies at Brock University and the University at Buffalo. As a Canadian, Forde's research often examines cross-national political, media, and policy analysis between Canada and the United States. She has published work in academic journals including Journalism, the Canadian Journal of Communication and Communication, Culture and Critique, has written and contributed to multiple book chapters, and was awarded the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Doctoral Fellowship from the Government of Canada.
