Chair Communication Studies, University of Western Australia

I was born in Manjimup in the rural southwest of Western Australia and managed to travel the world before assuming my current position teaching Communication and Media Studies at the University of Western Australia.

I have also taught at Murdoch, Curtin and Liverpool Universities and am currently engaged in constructing a number of research proposals looking at democratic forums and youth alienation, democracy and local news and the geographies of digital media.

I have previously published research on democracy and new technology and the emancipative potential of play. My first book 'Democracy in the Age of New Media' was published early 2011.
