(2022-2024) Visiting Professor, Northeastern University, Boston / (2014-...) (on leave) Full Professor in Economics, ERUDITE, UPEC, Université Paris-Est Créteil Val de Marne (UPEC)

Prof. Thomas Barnay is currently a Visiting Professor at Northeastern University (Boston, MA, US), where he teaches health economics and public economics.
In 2021-2022, he was a Visiting Professor at the Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School, Harvard University (Boston, MA, US), and also a recipient of the Harkness Fellowship in Health Care Policy and Practice (The Commonwealth Fund) (2021-2022).

As a Full Professor in economics at the University of Paris-Est Créteil on leave since 2021, he also served as the Director of ERUDITE (Research Team on the Use of Individual Data in connection with Economic Theory) from 2018 to 2021. He is also a co-leader of the Health Economics and Public Health pillar at the LIVE University Research School of UPEC.

Specializing in health and labor economics, his research focuses on the links between health status (disability, mental health, cancer), occupational status (employment, unemployment, retirement), and working conditions (physical constraints and psychosocial risks), access to healthcare and healthcare expenditure, retirement economics, dependency, aging, and COVID-19.

Furthermore, he serves as the Vice-President of Research at CES (College of Health Economists) and is an elected member of the Steering Committee of the French Association of Economic Sciences.

He is also the Founder of the Master 2 in Health Economics at the University of Paris Est Créteil, which he directed from 2011 to 2014 and co-directed with Yann Videau from 2016 to 2018. He also co-founded the Master's in Management and Health at IAE Gustave Eiffel, Upec in 2009 and directed the first class of the Master 2 in Health Facility Management (alternating training). Finally, he directed the Bachelor's in Economics and Management at Upec from 2007 to 2009.

Previously, between 2012 and 2015, he held a position as Scientific Advisor at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health at Drees (Directorate of Research, Studies, Evaluation, and Statistics), Sub-directorate of Health and Health Insurance Observation, Population Health Status Bureau. He was responsible for the scientific coordination and valorization of the Health and Occupational Pathways survey. Between 2006 and 2012, he also served as the Secretary-General of the College of Health Economists (scholarly society).
