Associate Professor and Director of the Centre on US Politics, UCL

Thomas Gift is Associate Professor of Political Science in the School of Public Policy at UCL. An expert in US politics, his research focuses on political behavior, public policy, and applications of survey and experimental methods.

Gift is founding Director of the UCL Centre on US Politics (CUSP), a leading hub for research and external engagement on US politics from a global perspective. He is also Director of the UCL Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) Programme. Currently, Gift is a Fellow in Residence at the University of Oxford's Rothermere American Institute and a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics US Centre.

Gift's writings are published in journals such as Political Behavior, Electoral Studies, Governance, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Foreign Policy Analysis, World Affairs, Annual Review of Political Science, World Economy, and elsewhere. He has received funding from the US National Science Foundation, the US Department of State, and the British Academy.

He frequently comments on US politics and policy for the media and has written dozens of articles in popular outlets including Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Newsweek, Independent, Huffington Post, The National Interest, War on the Rocks, and The Hill.

He has done hundreds of interviews for major television, radio, and news venues such as CNN, BBC, CNBC, NPR, LBC, Bloomberg, Sky News, France 24, Euronews, Times Radio, Monocle 24, and Voice of America. Previously, Gift was based at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and he has also been a Visiting Scholar in Political Science at Stanford University. He received his PhD in Political Science from Duke University.
