Professor and Canada Research Chair for Population and Global Health, University of Manitoba

Dr. Ties Boerma is professor and Canada Research Chair for Population and Global Health at the University of Manitoba, Canada, and Director of the Countdown to 2030 for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health. He has over 30 years of experience working in global public health and research programmes, including 10 years at national and districts levels in Africa. He has directed the World Health Organization's work on health information and evidence for 12 years, and has worked for bilateral donors, national governments and research institutions, and published extensively on AIDS, maternal and child health, health information systems and statistics in epidemiological, demographic, and public health journals. A national of the Netherlands, he received his degree in medicine (MD) from the University of Groningen, and a PhD in medical demography from the University of Amsterdam.
