Musician and historian, University of Sydney

I am a songwriter, musician and historian of popular music and culture living and working on Gadigal and Wangal Lands. I am Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. I am the lead singer and songwriter of the band Youth Group, with whom I have won an ARIA award. My musical practice has developed responses to place, memory and home through song, innovative approaches to cross-cultural collaborations, songwriting collaborations between musicians and non-musicians, and strategies for generating social inclusivity through music. My historical and musicological research has looked at the social and cultural history of country music in Australia, Aboriginal country music, the criminalisation of drill rap and music and colonial tourism. I am currently Co Chief Investigator on the ARC Discovery Project 'Hearing the Music of Early NSW: 1788-1860'
