Tony Birch is a professorial research fellow in the Moondani Balluk Academic Centre at Victoria University. His research is concerned with climate justice, protection of country and Indigenous ecological and cultural knowledge.

He has published the short story collections Shadowboxing (Scribe, 2006), Father’s Day (Hunter, 2009) and Common People (UQP, 2017). His first novel, Blood, was published by UQP in 2011 and was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Award. His other books include The Promise (UQP, 2014), Ghost River (UQP, 2015) and The White Girl (UQP, 2019). In 2017, he was awarded the Patrick White Literary Prize. His work has previously been published in Griffith Review 34, 42, 52, 60 and 63.
