Commercial Pilot | GP & Aerospace Medicine Specialist | Clinical Lecturer, University of Adelaide

Dr Tony Schiemer is an Australian commercial pilot, engineer and medical doctor, specialising in aerospace medicine and general practice. He holds fellowships with the Aerospace Medical Association, the Australasian College of Aerospace Medicine and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. His current area of research involves the investigation of unexplained physiological episodes in flight, including transcutaneous and point-of-care assessment of hyper/hypocapnia and other blood gas parameters as potential contributing factors. Prior to his current role, Tony served for fourteen years with the Royal Australian Navy as a marine engineer and later, a general duties and aviation medical officer, during which time he deployed on multiple occasions, including to active overseas NATO operations.

As a pilot, Tony holds commercial pilot licences in Australia, New Zealand and the United States, and currently works as a charter pilot and flight instructor. He holds Grade 2, Multi-Engine, Instrument Rating and Design Feature training endorsements, and is rated in aerobatics.

His interests are primarily in medical education, flight training and aircrew medical certification, as well as space and extreme environment medicine, with a background and experience in primary care and mechanical/marine systems engineering.
