Assistant Professor of Geography, University of California, Santa Barbara

Vamsi Ganti is a geomorphologist and sedimentologist. He joined the faculty at UC Santa Barbara in 2018, and prior to that, he was a postdoctoral scholar at Caltech and a research fellow at the Imperial College London. He received his PhD at the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory, University of Minnesota, and his Bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

Vamsi's research group seeks to quantify and understand the mechanics of physical processes that shape the landscapes on Earth and other planets, and to unravel the expression of these processes in the ancient sedimentary record. To address these questions, they use an interdisciplinary, integrated approach that combines a wide array of tools ranging from sediment transport theory, mathematical and statistical analyses, physical experiments, remote sensing data and field observations.
