Dr Vanessa Harbour is a senior lecturer in creative writing and is the programme leader for the MA in Creative & Critical Writing at the University of Winchester. She has extensive experience in teaching practices at both undergraduate and post graduate level, learning and teaching, research informed teaching and research. In addition, she has many years’ experience of research and development and management in both academic and the commercial sectors. She is the editor and co-founder of the e-journal Write4Children The International Journal for the Practices and Theories of Writing for Children and Children’s Literature. Her PhD explored the issues of representation/representing sex, drugs and alcohol in young adult fiction and had a creative writing emphasis. Vanessa is a member of National Association of Writers in Education and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators; she also works alongside Imogen Cooper with the Golden Egg Academy. Her current works in progress are a young adult adventure based during the Second World War and a book contracted by Palgrave Macmillan for publication in 2015 entitled Writing Young Adult Fiction: A Creative & Critical Approach.
Her PhD in creative writing explored the issues of representing/representation of sex, drugs and alcohol in young adult fiction.
