Velda is Associate Professor of English and Literacy Education. Her current research interests lie in the intersection of literature, society and education. She is Research Lead for Lit in Colour - the initiative by Penguin Random House and Runnymede Trust in partnership with others to widen the racial diversity of texts, authors and concerns in the English classroom. She is particularly interested in the way canon and knowledge are mobilised in discourses around social mobility, morality and education.
