Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Ocean and Earth Science, University of Southampton

Dr Verity Nye is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Marine Biology and Ecology at the University of Southampton, and undertook the first mission in a deep-diving submersible to volcanic vents at 2.3 km depth in the Caribbean.

As a marine biologist, her research investigates the ecology, diversity and evolution of marine species, especially in the deep ocean. This research is crucial to inform the sustainable use of marine resources and conservation strategies in our planet's largest biome. Her work has revealed the patterns of life and life-cycles of organisms at volcanic vents, including the discovery and description of several new species. Verity's work also involves sharing her research with wider public audiences.
