Veronica Øverlid

PhD Candidate in Law and Legal Studies, Carleton University

Veronica Øverlid is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Law and Legal Studies at Carleton University. Prior to the PhD, she worked with civil society organizations related to human rights and youth in several countries, and has written several non-academic articles about human rights activism in Latin America. She has taught at a high school level, and has furthermore worked at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Egypt, with a focus on gender-based violence. Currently, she is involved in various student initiatives at Carleton University, including the Migration and Diaspora Student Society and the Graduate Legal Studies Association. For her doctoral dissertation, she is examining the “migrant caravan” in Central America as a protest movement, considering its implications for international refugee law. She is funded by the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation.
