Vibodh Parthasarathi

Associate Professor, Jamia Millia Islamia

I maintain a multidisciplinary interest in media policy, creative industries, and policy literacy, and currently have active collaborations with scholars in Australia, Belgium, Germany, New Zealand, and Sweden. Deeply interested in the digital transition in various media industries and on the value of diversity in media regulation in India, my latest publication is the co-edited double volume, The Indian Media Economy (Oxford University Press 2018).
I have been at the forefront of academic/policy research on the media in India and a winner of numerous grants, including from the Ford Foundation (New York), Canada’s IDRC (Ottawa), Social Science Research Council (New York), India New Zealand Education Council (Delhi-Wellington), HIVOS (The Hague-Bangalore) and Open Society Foundation (London).
From Feb 2017 to Jan 2020 I am on Extraordinary Leave from my tenured position as Associate Professor at the Centre for Culture, Media and Governance, Jamia Millia Islamia. As a Visiting Fellow, I have been invited by the University of Queensland, Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay, and KU Leauven. A founding Board Member of the Centre for Internet & Society (Bangalore), I serve on equivalent positions at The Media Foundation (New Delhi), the India Media Centre at the University of Westminster (London), and the India Open Data Association (New Delhi).
