Victoria Fernández

Since 2011, I work as lecturer and researcher at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Montes, Forestal y del Medio Natural). I am a bachelor in Horticulture from University College Dublin (Ireland) and gained a PhD in Agriculture from the Humboldt University of Berlin (Germany).
Since my PhD thesis, I have been developing applied and fundamental research approaches to the absorption of water and solutes by plant organs (leaves, fruits and flowers), focussing also on the effect of nutrient deficiencies in plants, at an anatomical and functional level. My studies often involve multidisciplinary and innovative approaches for assessing the physico-chemical properties of plant surfaces and their interactions with water and foliar applied substances.
Regarding scientific knowledge transfer, I have written more than 80 scientific and technical contributions. I have also participated giving seminars and invited lectures at scientific and technical meetings in several world countries. I regularly develop research projects in collaboration with national and international agrochemical companies which help me apply the research knowledge we are gaining. I also contribute to the evaluation of national and international research proposals and have revised scientific papers for múltiple journals.
