W. Scott Dunbar

Professor and Head of Department of Mining Engineering, University of British Columbia

Following my PhD I worked in consulting engineering, mostly on geotechnical and water resources projects in North and South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. I joined the Department of Mining Engineering at UBC in 1997. I taught courses in engineering economics, professional ethics, mine waste management, and simulation. I have two research foci. One is advanced methods of mineral resource extraction, especially applications of biotechnology to separation of minerals of economic interest, and the other is new business models and strategies for the mineral resources industry.
