Architect, Philip Leeson Architects; PhD Student, Australian National University

Wendy Christie is an architect with several years experience gained from working on architectural projects in Australia and overseas, predominantly in remote and tropical locations. She spent many years in Northern Australia, where her work focused on projects located in remote Top End communities. Wendy has most recently been working in the field of International Community Development, where she was based in Vanuatu in the role of Heritage Architect for the Chief Roi Mata’s Domain World Heritage Visitor Centre project. She is particularly interested in architectural projects that focus on: community-driven design briefs; culturally appropriate design solutions; architecture that responds to the local culture and climate, environmental sustainability; vernacular building forms and the expression of cultural values though architectural design. Wendy’s research focuses on traditional architecture in Vanuatu, and she has recently shifted her focussed to the role that traditional architecture plays during severe weather events.
