Wilhelm de Beer is an Associate Professor in Microbiology at the University of Pretoria. He is based in the Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (FABI) and is a core team member of the Centre of Excellence in Tree Health Biotechnology (CTHB) and Tree Protection Co-operative Programme (TPCP). This team of scientists specialize in research on all aspects of tree diseases and pests. Wilhelm’s research focuses on various aspects of fungi associated with insects, especially bark and ambrosia beetles, but also some fungal pathogens of humans and animals. He holds a B2 rating from the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa and has published more than 120 papers, a number of book chapters, and was editor of one book.
