William Zumeta

William Zumeta is Professor Emeritus of Public Policy & Governance and of Higher Education at the University of Washington where he has taught since 1985. He has also taught at UCLA and the University of British Columbia and holds MPP and PhD degrees from the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley. Dr. Zumeta has experience in state and local government and consulting as well as in academic administration. He is a fellow of the TIAA Institute and served from 2005-2011 as a Senior Fellow at the National Center for Public Policy & Higher Education. In 2009-10, he was President of the Association for the Study of Higher Education. He has held research grants from numerous government agencies and national foundations including the U.S. Department of Education, the National Science Foundation, the Lilly Endowment, Pew Charitable Trusts, and the Hewlett, Sloan and Spencer Foundations (among others). He is the author of more than one hundred publications on various aspects of higher education and public policy ranging from postdoctoral education to community colleges to public policy and private higher education. He is first author of: Financing American Higher Education in the Era of Globalization, with Patrick Callan, David Breneman and Joni Finney, published by Harvard Education Press in 2012.
