Yannis Tzioumakis

Senior Lecturer in Communication and Media, University of Liverpool

Yannis Tzioumakis is Senior Lecturer in Communication and Media in the School of the Arts. He teaches courses on Hollywood and independent cinema and on the political economy of global entertainment. He has published widely on aspects of American cinema, such as the history of Orion Pictures and film authorship in contemporary Hollywood and on a number of filmmakers, including John Sayles, David Mamet, Steven Soderbergh, Edgar G. Ulmer and Joseph H. Lewis.

His essays have appeared in international journals such as The Velvet Light Trap and The New Review of Film and Television Studies as well as in a number of edited collections. He is the author of American Independent Cinema: An Introduction (2006), The Spanish Prisoner (2009) and Hollywood’s Indies: Classics Divisions, Specialty Labels and the American Film Market (2012), all for Edinburgh University Press, for which he also co-edits the American Indies book series that has produced six volumes since 2009.
