Associate Professor of Energy/Electricity Law, University of Lagos

Dr. Yemi Oke had his LL.M and PhD degrees from the Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada; LL.B from University of Ilorin, Nigeria; B.L. from the Nigerian Law School, Abuja. He specializes in Energy and Natural Resources Law. He pioneered the Electricity Law and Regulation course in the graduate (LL.M and PhD) law programmes of the University of Lagos. In addition to Electricity Law as his core specialization, Dr. Oke’s teaching and research interests also include Oil & Gas, Minerals & Mining Law, International Environmental Law and Law of International Institutions. He was at various times in the course of his legal career the ‘Best Performance Award Winner, Department of Public Law, University of Ilorin, Nigeria; Best Performance Award Winner, Department of Private and Property Law, and was also awarded several prizes in other law subjects by the same institution. He was awarded the prestigious ‘York University Scholarship for Academic Distinctions’, the ‘Peter W. Hogg Award’ for exceptional students with demonstrable leadership potentials and ‘Willard Z. Estey Fellowship for Research and Teaching Excellence’ at the Osgoode Hall Law School, York University for his LL.M and PhD studies respectively, among other scholarships/fellowships.
Dr Yemi Oke is an international legal consultant of repute with several publications and presentations. He was at various times Counsel in leading law firms in Nigeria, including Chief Rotimi Williams’ Chambers; Babalakin & Co; Olaniwun Ajayi and KPMG Nigeria. In the course of his graduate studies, he taught at the York University and Ryerson University both in Ontario, Canada before joining the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos.
