Research interests: development of disposable/re-usable samplers to isolate organic chemicals from complex samples for analyses by GCxGC-TOFMS and UPLC-HRMS. Complex mixtures analysed and studied include human and animal skin chemicals, the human exposome, emerging micropollutants, persistent organic pollutants, endocrine disrupting chemicals, aroma, fairy circles of southern Africa. These novel, in-house made samplers are exceptionally versatile and applied to a wide range of complex mixtures isolated from skin, the exposome, water, air, soil, wine, natural products, etc: possibilities are virtually limitless.
Sampling of the skin volatilome for disease diagnostics/pest control is totally non-invasive compared to invasive sampling of breath, blood or urine.
Isolation of human skin chemicals in the context of malaria is affiliated to the UP Institute for Sustainable Malaria Control (UP ISMC).
