Zahidul's research focuses on understanding the role of host factor in infection. As a postdoc, he has been exploring the role of the transcription factor, Spi-C, in bacterial infection.

He completed his PhD at the University of Texas at Arlington. During PhD, his research interest was in the development of antibacterial drugs to treat Clostridium difficile infection. He published in peer-reviewed journals.

Zahidul's writing has appeared in Scientific American.
