Zahilyn D. Roche Allred

Postdoctoral Scholar, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Florida International University

Zahilyn received her Ph.D. in Chemistry with a specialization in Chemistry Education Research from Miami University in Oxford, OH. Her dissertation work focused on the development of a representations inventory to measure students' ideas about the electronic structure of the atom with regards to probability and energy quantization. Prior to that, she completed her BA degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biology from Florida International University (FIU). During her time at FIU, she was a research assistant in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, where she synthesized conjugated nanoparticles for biomedical applications. After obtaining her BA, she taught middle school science for one year before attending graduate school. Currently, she is working on the development of activities that prompt students to use their chemistry concepts to explain biological phenomena.
