Shorter lifespan for overweight young adults

Young overweight adults are more likely to die earlier than others, even if they exercise and lose weight later in life.

“Our results really make me concerned that getting heavy early in life could translate into a shorter lifespan for many Americans,” the lead author said.

The study found overweight men were more susceptible to an early death than woman.

People with a higher body mass index (BMI) have a 21% higher risk early death than others. This risk can be increased by smoking, level of physical activity and alcohol consumption.
