Stem cells could be used to save animals

Scientists have produced stem cells from endangered species for the first time.

It is hoped that the production of stem cells could save animals nearing extinction.

“Stem cell technology provides some level of hope that they won’t have to become extinct even though they have been completely eliminated from their habitat,” said Oliver Ryder, co-author of the study.

Ryder’s team had previously collected skin cells from more than 800 species.
