Tee-totalling in high school doesn’t prevent bingeing in uni

Young women who abstain from drinking in school often binge drink in university, leaving them at greater risk of sexual assault, a new study has found.

US researchers followed 437 young women from high school into university . They found that half of previous non-drinkers had engaged in binge drinking at least once by the end of their first semester.

The binge drinking was linked to an increased risk of sexual assault. 59% of serious binge drinkers had been sexually victimised in their first semester at university.
