The internet and online pricing has made flight times longer

Although air fares are now cheaper, flight times are longer than they were in the 1990s, a new study has found. Dr Ater, from Tel Aviv University, found a definitive relationship between internet access and scheduled flight times.

In the pre-internet era, where travel agents were primarily responsible for flight bookings, flight duration was given priority. Today, however, where passengers with internet access buy their own tickets, price is priortised over time.
