Taking carbon out of the atmosphere too expensive

Direct Air Caption technology, in which chemicals are used to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, has been found to be economically unviable.

The process of direct air captioning operates when ambient air flows over a chemical sorbent that selectively removes the CO2. The CO2 is then released as a concentrated stream for disposal or reuse.

This technology was found to cost $600 or more per metric ton of CO2.
