World-first database to develop at Sydney

A database to predict and prevent the spread of infectious diseases will be developed at The University of Sydney by researchers led by an internationally renowned infectious diseases expert. The Australian Disease Database will combine information about virus genome sequences with detailed socioeconomic and geographical information about Australia. Professor Edward Holmes use it to determine what kind of viruses are likely to emerge in the future as well as the underpinnings of some virus’ ability to jump across hosts.
