Associate Professor of Political Science, University of Maryland, Baltimore County

Growing up in metro-Detroit, I became convinced that we could do better economically and for a larger swath of people. I have not been disavowed of that belief. My research explores why and how local governments use particular economic development policies to improve their economic circumstances. I analyze the factors leading governments to prioritize economic growth, sustainability, and social equity. I also evaluate the impact of our local policies on economic growth, social equity, and wellbeing.

I do this work as an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science. I am also an affiliate faculty of the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (https://news.umbc.edu), in the Metropolitan Governance and Management Transitions lab at Indiana University Bloomington, and at the Center for Urban Studies at Wayne State University. I earned my Ph.D. at the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Administration at George Washington University and my BA and MA in Political Science at Wayne State University.
