David Álvarez Alonso

Profesor Titular del departamento de Prehistoria, Historia Antigua y Arqueología de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, al que se incorporó en el curso académico 2017/18.
Licenciado en Historia por la Universidad de Oviedo (2001) y Doctor en Prehistoria por la UNED (2010), su tesis doctoral versó sobre las primeras ocupaciones humanas en el norte de la península ibérica. Desde entonces ha dirigido varios proyectos de investigación centrados en las ocupaciones humanas durante el Paleolítico medio y superior en el norte y en el interior peninsula.
Su investigación se centra en el estudio de los cazadores-recolectores del Pleistoceno superior en la península ibérica, con especial atención a las últimas poblaciones neandertales de la península ibérica y al análisis de la territorialidad y modos de subsistencia de los grupos cazadores-recolectores de finales del Paleolítico superior.
Entre 2019 y 2022 ha sido coordinador del Máster en Arqueología prehistórica de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y coordinador de la Unidad Docente de Prehistoria desde 2021 hasta 2023.
Ha dirigido excavaciones en 11 yacimientos paleolíticos diferentes, sumando más de 35 campañas arqueológicas dirigidas en yacimientos de esta cronología, además de haber dirigido 10 campañas de excavación en yacimientos prehistóricos de otras cronologías (Neolítico a Edad del Bronce).
Ha publicado más de 160 trabajos científicos, entre artículos de revistas y capítulos de libro, tanto en el ámbito nacional como internacional. Entre 2014 y 2016 he realizado estancias postdoctorales en la Universität zu Köln (Colonia, Alemania) y en el Neanderthal Museum (Mettman, Alemania).
Tiene reconocidos tres quinquenios docentes (2005-2021) y tres sexenios de investigación (2005-2010; 2011-2016; 2017-2022).
