Luis Alberto Henríquez Hernández

Luis Alberto Henríquez Hernández, VMD, PhD, has specialized in Toxicology and its effects on human health, animals, and food. With over 15 years of experience in academia, he has held various teaching positions. Since 2017, he has been an Associate Professor of Toxicology at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), where he teaches at the Faculties of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.

He has been recognized with 3 six-year periods of research (2022). He has directed 11 Doctoral Theses since 2010 (last one in July 2020) and has directed 13 master's theses and several final degree projects. He is the author of 125 publications indexed in PubMed, with an impact index (JCR, 64% in Q1 journals; mean IF = 4.05), with more than 1,400 citations, an H index of 40, and an i10 index —published articles witn more than 10 citations— of 95. According to the latest update from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) on the ranking of Spanish researchers in Google Scholar, he holds the position 5,757, with an H-index assigned in November 2023 of 37.

He has written or edited several books or book chapters on topics in his field. During these years he has been enrolled in the field of environmental toxicology, crediting extensive experience in biomonitoring of human, animal, terrestrial and marine ecosystems, as well as toxicovigilance and study of chemical exposure markers. His postdoctoral training in oncology makes him the person responsible for analyzes related to human health and the link that toxicology has with cancer and other complex diseases. He has been part of several national and European projects (currently 2, one of the INTERREG program and another of the H2020), and has participated in many others national projects. He collaborates with numerous research groups from different countries, both European and from the rest of the world. Since 2023, he has been a member of the Psychedelic Scientific Association of the Canary Islands, having published several articles related to this topic.

He served as the Director of European Mobility in the Vice-Rectorate of Internationalization and Cooperation from 2017 to 2020, and currently holds the position of Secretary of the Department of Clinical Sciences.
