Benzodiazepines, like alcohol, are depressant drugs, sometimes referred to as “downers” as they make people feel relaxed, sleepy, less coordinated and generally slowed down.
This class of drug poses significant risks of misuse and dependence, paradoxical reactions, disinhibition, amnesia and intoxication.
