A champion seed smuggler

A fruit-eating fish called the tambaqui has proven itself a winner at excreting seeds in forests and savannas surrounding the Amazon Basin. A paper in an upcoming Proceedings of the Royal Society B reveals that seeds “hitchhiking” with the fish can land almost 5.5 kilometres from the mother tree.
