A GPs life: older patients and chronic diseases

Australian general practitioners are seeing more patients with chronic diseases than they were a decade ago.

As Australia’s population ages, research shows there is an increase of older patients seeing GPs, and that older patients are presenting with more chronic health problems.

The study also shows patients with type 2 diabetes account for 8% of GPs’ workload; 97% of type 2 diabetic patients have at least one other chronic condition and tend to have longer consultations with GPs.
