Allergen in lip balm causes chapped lips

A popular pawpaw-based lip balm contains an undeclared allergen that can cause lips to become severely chapped, dermatologists have found.

Myroxylon pereiraewas, a relatively common allergen, is not listed as an ingredient in Lucas Pawpaw Ointment, however, the manufacturer of the ointment confirmed that a small amount was present.

Dermatologists believe that the myroxylon pereiraewas in the ointment was the cause of the dermatitis (inflammation of the skin) they found in two patients.
