Binge drinking might be in your genes

A particular gene is responsible for how likely a person is to binge drink.

A variation of the RASGRF-2 gene gives people a stronger feeling of reward when they drink and a greater sense of pleasure, meaning they drink more often and in larger amounts.

Researchers analysed brain scans from 14- and 16-year-old boys, finding those with the RASGRF-2 variation drank more frequently than those who did not.
