Bird search goes high-tech

The development of “automated acoustic sensors” has made monitoring the presence or absence of wildlife easier and more cost effective.

The sensors are deployed in remote locations and record environmental sounds which are then transmitted to an online digital library.

The sensors were developed alongside new software which filters the archived audio, isolating sections in which specific bird calls can be identified.
