Brain plays bigger role in diabetes than thought

The hypothalamus has a powerful effect on maintaining blood glucose levels independent of insulin.

Since its discovery in the 1920s, insulin has been used almost exclusively for the treatment of diabetes.

Treatments targeting both the brain and pancreatic system would help better regulate blood glucose levels and possibly force diabetes into remission.
