Ethical consumers don’t monkey around

Melbourne Zoo has played an unusual part in research by the Melbourne Business School into ethical consumer behaviour. Visitors to the zoo were asked to choose between products made with orangutan-unfriendly palm oil and vegetable oil. The study found that people were more likely the choose the orangutan-friendly product when it was labelled as such. Manufacturers are not currently required to disclose on packaging when palm oil is used in products.
